The Director of Keta Port, Dr. Alexander Adusei, has expressed optimism that the new port facility, which is under construction, will bring new opportunities to the port industry.
He also said the Keta Port will be different from the existing two ports of Ghana – Tema Port and Port Takoradi.
“We need to ensure that Keta is unique compared to the two functioning ports in Ghana, so everything that whatever the port needs – that is currently the best practice in Africa – is imported into Keta. We are going to take our time to develop Keta, and it will be an entry point,” he revealed.
He said new port will be built in a way that will also benefit the neighbouring countries as well.
He told journalists on the side-lines of the 40th Council Meeting and Conference of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa in Lomé, Togo.
He said the port will not only contribute to the GDP of the nation’s economy, but will also transform the lives of constituents in the Keta area by creating a vibrant urban centre in Keta.
“I see Keta Port as the beginning of the re-development of Volta Region and also the Oti Region; and what Keta Port will bring to the environment will be unique – the same way Tema Port reorganized the people of Tema,” he projected.
