The Director of the Port of Keta, Dr. Alexander Adusei, has justified his appointment to the high office of the yet to be constructed port saying he has been tasked to take charge of all negotiations, monitoring and day-to-day decisions to ensure the realisation of the project.
“You need a director to start the whole thinking process to bring that port into fruition. The director with his team will be able to develop what is perfect for the area designated,” he said.
Dr. Adusei, who was speaking on GPHA’s Eye on Port, also added: “You need a director who will work with technicians and engineers from GPHA to ensure the purpose of the construction.
Exactly what is in the masterplan of GPHA based on the economics evaluated is what is being developed and nothing else.”
His comments come on the back of heightened criticism from concerned parties who see no reason why a yet to be built port should have an appointed director-general.
The critics argued that his position could have been handled by already employed officials at Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) that has oversight of the port.
But according to Dr. Adusei, he has so far been leading the planning and developmental stages of the port processes with feasibility studies by international consultants expected to be completed by February 2021.
“For successful realisation of the port project, the designation of an officer in my capacity is crucial in ensuring all appropriate administrative and technical processes are duly implemented to create a solid foundation for the construction of a world class Keta Port that meets the president’s vision,” he explained.
Dr. Adusei called on Ghanaians to move away from politicising the Keta Port project since it’s been the agenda of successive governments since independence and rather solicited the support of all relevant stakeholders, investors, entrepreneurs to the project.
