The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Ghana and Transaid, UK took place on November 30, 2021 in Accra. This marks a milestone in promoting mutual cooperation between both parties in the area of road safety in Ghana with particular emphasis on the implementation of Transaid’s current road safety programme in Ghana.
The agreement was signed by Engr. Mark Amoamah – National President of CILT Ghana and Caroline Barber – Chief Executive Officer of Transaid under the witness of representatives from both parties.
Speaking about this milestone in the programme, Caroline Barber said “Transaid has a long and rich history collaborating with CILT in Ghana and I am pleased that we are partnering with CILT again to deliver this life saving work.”
Transaid is an International Development Organization founded by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) International, and is currently in Ghana to undertake a 4-year project aimed at making the Ghanaian roads safer by raising training standards and expanding training capacity for Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) and Passenger Service Vehicle (PSV) Drivers.
The ‘Training of Trainers’ model of the project is to equip and build local capacities to ensure professionalism and quality HGV and PSV Driver Standards in Ghana. The provision of quality professional driver training will be expanded to increase access and ensure that drivers are trained to the highest standards and in turn, improving their access to future jobs and helping to drive economic growth.
Some high level of consultations had gone on for the past months and the relevant industry players were brought together in a workshop which led to the development of a national curriculum and the structure for this training pending approval and blessings from the Ministry of Transport.
Both parties have pledged their commitment to ensuring that the contents of the agreement are carried through for mutual benefits.
