The maiden edition of the Adinkra International Arts and Crafts Show Ghana (AICCSG) has officially opened at the Papaye Recreational Village at Konkonuru in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The ten-day event, organised by the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), promises to become a hub for knowledge sharing and inspiration while championing authentic African art, craft, home décor, jewellery, and textile products.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, the CEO of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Osafohene Dr. Afua Asabea Asare I, assured art dealers of GEPA’s commitment to supporting the industry to increase revenue through exports.
She said the show aims to facilitate continuous improvement for African artisans by providing a unique platform to showcase their products to a global audience.
Dr. Afua Asabea Asare emphasised the importance of the arts sector in driving economic growth in Ghana, adding that initiatives such as the AIACSG would help local artists connect with and sell to international buyers.
She said GEPA is collaborating with the Ghana Tourism Authority for a broader strategy to leverage the export and tourism potential of the Ghanaian craft sector.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond, in a speech read on his behalf by his Technical Advisor, John-Hawkins Asiedu, commended GEPA for spearheading the initiative to improve exports in the arts sector.
He said the tourism sector is a major contributor to Ghana’s economy, and thus improving the art sector through events such as AIACSG would directly increase the frequency of inbound travels while boosting the export of Ghanaian artworks.
The biennial fair is expected to boost art exports by showcasing high-quality African artworks while providing a platform for industry players to network and explore business opportunities.
With over 150 exhibitors present, visitors can patronise unique products from some of the best artisans in Africa.
